Our Grand Dame Mickey passed away this morning...a runt of the litter, she wasn't supposed to make it past 6 months.

She lived 16 glorious years. She was loved beyond measure and will be missed beyond description.

*deep sigh*

She was waiting for a train....

...at least that's how she made it look.

====================================

Over 16 years ago, my family was blessed with being chosen by a street smart kitten of Doom.
Literally.

One night in 1993, [livejournal.com profile] felishathekitty and I were walking to our neighbor's apartment when a gray tabby about as big as your hand came up to us. She circled us and then 'forced' us to pet her. Lennetta was smitten immediately - I still had my doubts. We had talked about getting a cat but never agreed on what kind. As I pushed L into our neighbor's car, I told her we'd think about it and keep an eye out for the kitten later. That wasn't necessary.

When we got to our apartment (a block away from where we left from), the kitten was sitting on our steps, with a look on her face like "What took you so long?".

We never had a chance.

She was named Cutie by TheChild...after a cousin of [livejournal.com profile] felishathekitty who had recently passed away. Cutie instantly became the head of the family - at least according to her. She made us laugh and kept me calm. She sometimes thought she was a dog (she'd rather bite than scratch, she loved to roughhouse and play fetch with a wrapped piece of peppermint). She backed down to no man, woman, child or vet. Actually our family vet used Cutie to train her vet techs and interns on how to deal with a "uncooperative animal" - The final score was Cutie - 6, Techs - 0.

As time passed, Cutie went from ferocious teenager to ferocious Adult to ferocious Grand Dame. The past couple of years took their toll on her - she rarely left our bedroom. She slept more than anything, but if I would be in the bedroom she would be next to or on top of me (whether I wanted it or not).

Sadly every story has an ending. The past week, Cutie's health quickly deteriorated. She was dropping weight, not eating or drinking and slowly moving around. The past couple of days, she just would sit and look around. Like she was waiting for a train to take her to her next destination. I remembered that a friend of mine said that when your cat was ready, she would "tell" you. Cutie and I sat up most of last night. I talked to her and she 'talked' to me. It was time.

We bundled her up in her favorite blanket this afternoon and went to see our vet - Cutie let her pick her up and pet her for the first time in 15 years without being sedated. All she did was grumble a little, as if to say "It may be my time, but I gave as good as I got - I'll be waiting for you on the other side".

After almost 17 years of being my friend, confidante and partner in crime, Cutie went from this world to the next...where she can once again chase all the birds, people and vets she desires.

Thank you for sharing your world with us.

*deep sigh*

Still here...still trying to find some fun in the world.
Still looking for homes for the cats...seems like all no-kill shelters in the area are full.
Still looking for work...while watching the number of friends losing their jobs over the past 2 weeks hit double digits.

Still not King.

I hope everyone has a great day and weekend...no matter what you celebrate.

Still no word on the job and no returning of calls. Looks like another dead end.

Still no luck with placing the cats. Will work on a flyer - don't know what else to do.

Be excellent to each other....

A blah day.

A Blah day with blah icing. :)

Getting great ideas about the kitties, but no movement yet on finding them homes.

Did I mention Blah? :p

TheChild and family came to Atlanta for a few days so we could hang out, but more importantly to pack the last of her stuff up from my house to drive it back to Vegas. When no one was at at the house and as they left, she (unknown to myself or [livejournal.com profile] felishathekitty) left some stuff - three furry packages in our apartment. The play-by-play, outrage and aftermath will come in another post as well.

The three cats are females, unspayed, about 3 years old. They are sisters (two black, one tabby) and they need more room, attention and love than we can give. A little skittish but wanting and needing love.

Can you make room so that Nicky, Cuddles and Precious can have a chance at a good home? They work independently as well as a clan. :) We will cover as much of any fees as we possibly can. If not, can you spread the word? Will either find them homes or a place in a no-kill shelter. I do not want them to have a short life at the "pound" due to my daughter's stupidity.

Thank you for helping...

And for those who can't help - you at least have cute pictures to look at. :)

I love my cats - really, I do. But some days...

Story behind the shot:

About 5:00AM, my cat Mickey got her nails/paw stuck between the frame and the mattress of the bed as she was probably testing out one of her acrobatic, mid-air leaps. To say it jolted me awake was an understatement.

Mickey and I had a miscommunication - I was trying to free her, she thought I was trying to kill her, making all the appropriate noises.

The goddess mafioso Cutie decided that I was being attacked and came to my aid (or was just bored or wanted Mickey to shut up).

Which caused this sandwich:

Scared Screaming Stuck-to-the-mattress-by-her-paw Cat
My Arm and Hand
Powerful Protector Pissed-off Pussy Cat

'Nuff said.

----------------

All cats are OK - but my finger has a hell of a gash that almost needed stitches and my arm has scratches that looks like I've been in a cat fight...literally.

Had an appointment with the doc today anyway, hence the tetanus shot.

Thus endeth the lesson. *bows*
