http://syredronning.livejournal.com/1530901.html has a link to a fixed version of LJArchive. I have heard from many people that it now works fine, both syncing entires and comments. I will be using it when I get home.

If you download it, be sure to thank the journal owner [livejournal.com profile] syredronning, who paid a coder to fix it.

...and back up your data. Always. Often. Twice even. :)

UPDATE: Tried it - worked fine for me. Your mileage may vary...

The Humble Frozenbyte Bundle

Pay what you want. If you bought these four games separately, it would cost around $50 but we're letting you set the price!

All of the games work great on Mac, Windows, and Linux.

We don't use DRM. When you buy these games, they are yours. Feel free to play them without an internet connection, back them up, and install them on all of your Macs and PCs freely. There is no time-limit on your downloads.

You can support charity. Choose exactly how your purchase is divided: Between Frozenbyte, the Electronic Frontier Foundation, or the Child's Play Charity. Also, if you like this deal, a tip to the Humble Bundle itself would be much appreciated!

Charity is So Cool. :)

Xbox 360 Arcade Spring 2010 Bundle + $50 Gift Card - $130

Target stores are offering the Xbox 360 Arcade model + $50 Gift Card for $130.

Note: the current Target ad shows price of $150 with $30 Gift Card; however, because the product is missing a headset which they advertised, Target has dropped the price to $130 with $50 giftcard.

Details:
They are so low because the new XBox 360 Slim is coming out (trying to make room for it), plus this particular model (no hard drive) is probably no longer going to be sold.

You don't need to buy a hard drive if you don't want to, you can use 1GB-16GB USB thumb drives for game saves.

Arcade does have an HDMI port but does not come with the cable (you can find HDMI cables for a few bucks online).

You still get all the online capabilities like streaming Netflix (with wireless adapter sold seperately) and you can still play all the 360 games, you just can't "install them" on a hard drive (which makes the box much quieter and does save on wear an tear).

Make your own decision if this is right for you but make it soon - they are already starting to sell out at this price.

*listens to someone who just lost all their computer data in a flood in their apartment*

So....backed up your data/emails/pictures/music/movies/pr0n/scripts/poems/stories lately?

I'm looking at doing an online thing as an extra layer for just this type of circumstance...

Just sayin'.

PS: Renters' Insurance....get it.

Working from home today - always a good thing.

Working from my new (to me) Dell Mini 10V - definitely a good thing.

Working from it because my main machine has been crippled with a virus - not good.

I guess I was due - haven't had to fight a major malware/virus/Trojan war in easily 6 years.

Never a dull moment...

:)

A friend was faced with an interesting problem. They tend to fall asleep listening to music on their Windows laptop, but hated leaving their machine on while they slept. (rundown batteries/higher power bill/etc...) They wanted an elegant way of shutting down at a certain time each night - with the ability to override if they are still up.

I suggested they use Windows Task Manager -- after the blank stare, I went in search of the best way to explain it. This blogger did the work for me, and did it well so I'm sharing:

Because of the recent "rebuilding" at the apartment, I have the opportunity to start with a clean slate how my computer will be set up in the room. It'll be one large/two small flatscreen monitors, a printer, books and the occasional cat.

If applicable, how do you have your desktop computer set up in your house? Any suggestions/warning/etc?

Thanks!

One of ours is in trouble...from [livejournal.com profile] reannon

================================================================================

You guys know [livejournal.com profile] yuki_onna? Author Catherynne Valente?

She got married. It was lovely. Then they went on the honeymoon. And got utterly screwed by Expedia, stranded in Germany and unable to get to their destination, Russia.

The problem has been sort-of solved by them pouring every dime they had into it, and now they have no money to get out. They're stranded.

In the meantime, Cat has been writing a novel online, a book-within-a-book titled "Fairyland," or "The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland In a Ship Of Her Own Making."

The latest chapter is up now. With tip jar.

They need $900 to get free.

If y'all chose to, say, be more generous than usual with the tip jar, you can help Cat get where she needs to go.

As you know... altogether we do more than we can apart. Do what you can.
