Only in my world is it normal that I have to plan to look through my closet for my Roman Catholic Cardinal costume.

I think it's the new norm to communicate via email or text, but it will never be "good manners". Good manners would require effort to pick up the phone, or to speak face to face. I also think it depends on the type of date one might be looking to make.

Early in dating some one I think it is better to pick up the phone and call. If you have been dating a while and things are well established I guess it is okay. But I would still rather get a phone call. I also think it depends on the person preferred mode of communication.
