Only in my world....

Been trying to solve a mystery with my car...having problems with the rear lights.

The signal light/brake light on the driver's side has stopped working.  Will not signal on its' own.

Changed the bulb this weekend thinking that would solve the problem.  Nope.

Kept having people ride my bumper at night, but couldn't figure out why (just thought it was typical Atlanta traffic)....

Had L look at my brake lights -- she tried to explain what was happening.  Wasn't understanding, so we switched.

When my lights are off and I hit the brakes, the brake lights work fine, the left signal light does not work.

When my lights are on, the back lights look fine.

When my lights are on and I hit the brakes, the lights on the left goes OFF, and the right brake light goes ON.

...and the left signal light still doesn't work.

Any ideas?  Gotta get this fixed somehow (and my night driving has to be seriously curtailed until this is fixed)

any fuses burned out? Obviously sounds electrical! maybe just pull all the fuses out, see if any are messed up and then put them all in again, in case it's a faulty connection. Next approach - *bat eyes at cute car-geek boy*

And...Ummm... I'm all out.

Wild Guess:

Might be a short in the left turn signal. (Could be at the blinker, switch, out to the wiring..)

Is the bulb still intact or did it blow again?

And does the problem still happen if you pull the left bulb?

But electrical problems are notoriously difficult to diagnose and locate.... Although I have had some luck doing a search for problems on google with my car make and model. Twice I've identified common problems (and appropriate solutions) with my particuliar model.

Without further diagnosis it sounds like a fault in the turn signal switch.

I've had bizarro problems like that before and it turned out to just be a bulb. Check 'em all again? Some bulbs have two elements in them and if one goes, it behaves just like you just said.

I would suggest you check your flasher mechanism. I think that might be the problem with your turn signal. It may also be the root of the other problems.
