...am I the only one that (since starting to use computers and cell phones all the time) can't spell, can't remember a telephone number, and can't read your own handwriting?
Hrm. Well, I've always sucked at remembering phone numbers. Takes me a couple months of regularly dialing it. If I don't use it very regularly, takes longer than that.
My handwriting is generally legible, to myself at least... and yes, my spelling has worsened over time, though I think that is more related to me not being able to place a word so often, as opposed to reliance upon spellcheck. Generally speaking, I know if I am mispelling it because I sit there trying half a dozen variations before getting exhasperated and either looking it up, or asking someone.
LOL...I have GORGEOUS handwriting if I do say so myself! Spelling isn't too bad, but if I get stumped I go to MSWord and use the spellchecker! And I can't remember phone numbers anymore. It's talk, arrow down, arrow down, press send!!!
I've never been great with remembering numbers, but it's gotten worse since relying on cell phones for most of them. That, and the fact that they keep adding new area codes!!
My spelling is still great, though it probably helps that I was an English major and that I play Scrabble a lot.
My handwriting has always been so-so; never gorgeous, but not chicken-scratch either.
But yeah, I think relying too much on computers and cell phones, as well as other technological conveniences, can be detrimental to certain areas of mental development.
I concur.... my handwriting looked atrocious BEFORE technology.... although it got a little better having been to basic and had to write letters by hand... which reminds me, I need to get back in the habit of writing people.
I haven't been able to remember phone numbers since I started saving them in my cell phone. My handwriting hasn't ever been anything to write home about, but it has gotten worse. I think that's due to arthritis more than computer use, though. The spelling, happily, is still good.
I'm glad to see everyone who so far has responded has a grasp of grammer. I get so sick of a the people who have forgotten how to use a "." or a ",". Caps is a wonderful thing, as well as being able to use full words like "you" instead of "u". I know at times I'm as guilty as the next person, but not very often.
