If you were looking for information on how to live without electricity, civilization and such (whether it is be camping, emergency and/or end-of-the-world driven), what book, website, etc would you recommend?

http://www.foxfire.org/prodFFbooks.html - these tell you about things like log cabin building, soap making, and the like. When the Y2K scare was coming down, my mom dugout her copies, and they were quite interesting.

Also, a search for survival books or survivalist turns up many interesting hits.

hmmmmm?

The irony is, you are using the height of civilization to ask about living without it.

To the question at hand, I would research SCA sites and books. Living without modern tools doesnt mean I have to live unpleasantly. All the SCA sites Ive been to give details on how to live in the period before 1800 without living poorly or uncomfortably.

There is my two cents.

Now - question? Are you considering running away?

... or, my boyfriend said, look up The Amish and how they live - via book, internet, or direct research.

I saw an interesting magazine, Backwoodsman at Borders the other day. I leafed through it and it seemed interesting.

BTW if you're planning on running off to Alaska (or someplace else as remote, but hopefully not quite as cold) let me know...I'm tempted to join you. ;)
