I have a question.

But before I do, the following disclaimer: I am not judging or condemning anything or anyone. I honestly don't get it....

Why would you want to use technology to track and broadcast where you are to the masses?

I'm still trying to "find myself" - I'm hoping I can GPS a life path.

okay okay, I'm not; I agree with you - I'm not one of those persons that will continually post, track, update where I am every moment of the day. I will only post my whereabouts during con time or traveling abroad. Cuz those broads need to be able to find me.

Yeah, i don't really get it either. My hubby used to do it more frequently than he does now (i think it was just "cool" to him that he could do it and so he did). BUT he was never one to update it all the time...

Your icon is perfect for that question. It exactly sums up how I feel about people who do that.

The only time I can see doing that at all, is if I'm meeting up with people from 8 different states at, say, Dragoncon. And once I've met up with them... it would go RIGHT THE FUCK BACK OFF AGAIN. Because I don't like enabling stalkers.

well since you ask before coffee :)

Wait, I've heard this question before, except it was phrased as "why WOULD you join a sorority?"...back in the days of the "5 paragraph essay"...

"Cause a bunch of idiots doing the same stupid things are less conspicuous than one doing the same thing all by themselves?"

"I have WAY too much time/money on my hands"

"I need to do things that make me THINK I have friends"

I am not sure if you are talking the whole GPS sort of thing or the silliness of the whole Face Book craze...but seriously, in the long run, I got nothin'.

Except in situations where life or death decisions are at hand, I have no idea why anyone would publish that information.

Heh... in that case.. I have a few people I would love to have use the system....

I use foursquare, and um, for fun? I have no crazy stalkers, and I in general believe the world's not out to get me, so why not?

In any case, it's all locked to friends, except the occasional twitter post. Joe Public can't see my foursquare account, nor my facebook feed.

So that the ninja assassins who follow me can be lulled into a false sense of comfort using that system -- then *I* can turn the tables and use it with a fake location to lure them into a vicious man-trap and slaughter them to the last soul! AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

...

Why *else* would anyone use it? *puzzled look*

I don't do it.. but several friends do..

So, assuming you're not worried about someone breaking into your house when you're not there... What's the harm?

And who, other than my friends, would give a crap one way or the other? And if a friend happens to see I'm eating dinner next door, cool...

Maybe if you take a different route every day... it would throw off a stalker...
but as for me... *eh* indifferent to it

You can do that?

I am SO behind...as usual.

One of the housemates uses this function to track where the hell her sweetie is on the way over, as he's been known to pull over and sleep for four hours mid-trip, and not respond to phone calls.

Umm, are you talking about just in general on LJ, FB, Twitter? Or specifically Twitter's new(ish) location function?

Anyhow, I'm not generally a fan of it. When I do post that I'm out somewhere, I usually don't give an exact location either. :P

There are more and more people who use apps like FourSquare - it "tweets" your location when you ask it to...

So if you are at JavaMonkey in Decatur for example, you can let the world know.

Belatedly, as I'm way behind on my LJ, I would NOT want to...

Heh... who knows. Hell, I didn't even really think about it when I signed up. Just another silly thing, y'know? Half the time I forget I have the app... I was on a roll today. ;)

Allegedly, if you sign in enough places enough times, you can get coupons or something. I'll probably never hit that level, and don't really care. And I find it very silly that I'm the "mayor" of my apartment complex and my mechanic... the latter of which probably doesn't even know what FourSquare is.

I got no excuse, dude. Baaaaaaa....

*blinkblink* Eh? I'd rather directly message, or MAYBE message a filtered list of people, where I am if I want anyone in the area to swing by if they feel like it.
